'Mummy is on the floor': Five-year-old boy saves mum's life with emergency call
A young boy’s phone call to emergency services could have saved his mother’s life after he found her lying unconscious.
Despite having severe speech problems, four-year-old Jacob can be heard on the call telling the operator "Mummy is on the floor”.
“Mummy has hurt herself. She isn't talking," the boy from Shropshire, United Kingdom, told Kelly Morgan, in the gut-wrenching phone call on January 5.
Audio of the call revealed how Jacob responded to Ms Morgan’s questions about his mother’s condition and followed her instructions to try and shake her awake.
“You’re very clever,” call handler Kelly Morgan told the little boy.
About three minutes into the phone call, the little boy was asked: “can you shake Mummy again?”.
Moments later the woman can be heard groaning as she regained consciousness.
“Gemma? Gemma can you hear me? It’s the police, are you alright? Tell me what’s happened?” the operator asked.
“I’ve fallen over. I’ve smacked my head... I can’t move my legs,” the woman responded.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got services on the way,” Ms Morgan reassured Ms Onions.
When Ms Morgon told the woman her son called UK emergency services line triple-9, the proud mother said: “he’s a clever little boy”.
Paramedics arrived shortly after, and Ms Onions was rushed to hospital, the Daily Starreported.
Ms Onions said she suffered an undiagnosed condition that caused her to have spasms in her limbs and back, and fall down.
Jacob and his two sisters Natasha, 12 and Megan, 10, are aware of their mum’s condition and knew to call triple-9 if she collapsed, she said.
Ms Onions said her son picked up the phone and saved her despite having “very severe speech problems”.
“He can say a few words clearly but he finds sentences very difficult,” she said.
Ms Morgon said it was difficult to establish what was happening, but the little boy was “amazing” and acted quickly.
“He did exactly the right thing, which meant that we were able to get the right help to his mum. She must be very proud of him.
"Every now and then you take a call that gets to you, and this was one of them, and I must admit I shed a couple of tears afterwards," Ms Morgon said.
