A Pakistani woman has been sentenced to death after she burned her daughter alive for "bringing shame" to the family.

Eighteen-year-old Zeenat Rafiq was murdered in the city of Lahore in June after eloping with a man her family didn't approve of.

Figures show there was an estimated 1100 "honour killings" in Pakistan in 2015 before the law was introduced in 2016.

Pakistan Today reports Zeenat had returned home in the hope of reconciling with her family after living with her partner and his family for a month.
