Man raped pregnant partner hours before she gave birth, court told

A UK man has been accused of raping his pregnant partner as she was wracked with pain in the late stages of labour.

Prosecutors told the Hull Crown Court that the man, who has not been named for legal reasons, told the woman he felt “horny” and ignored her pleas to stop having sex with her.

The Daily Mail reports prosecutor Michael Greenhalgh told the court the soon-to-be mother and her partner had gone to bed, but while he fell asleep after labour began at 11.30pm, she stayed awake.

“In order to try and relieve the pressure and the pain of the contractions, she got onto all fours because she had been told that was a way of relieving the pain,” Mr Greenhalgh said.

“She was in that position when the defendant woke up. He saw her naked on all fours and said "I feel horny", to which she replied "are you serious?”

“The defendant then got behind her and started having sex with her.”

Mr Greenhalgh said he had ignored her pained cries and continued despite her making it clear she did not consent.

The man denies the pair had sex.

According to prosecutors, he offered to run his partner a bath after the incident.

Hours later the woman gave birth to their baby, but later concluded she could not forget the incident after the man allegedly behaved poorly with the newborn.

“The woman will note two things precipitated that change,” Mr Greenhalgh said.

“Firstly, she was back in the bedroom where this happened, which is a stark and uncomfortable reminder to her.”

He also told the court the man had responded to the child’s crying by calling them a “spoiled little s**t”.

The woman reported the alleged rape to family and police shortly after returning home from hospital.

The trial continues.
