Man brazenly picks up baby girl from shopping trolley in US store

A US mother has told of her shock at catching a man who was caught picking up her baby girl in a shopping centre.

Florence Monauer posted CCTV of the incident in Houston, Texas, to her Facebook page as a warning to other parents.

It has since been viewed more than three million times.

The clip shows a man wearing a pink or red shirt walk casually over to the shopping trolley while Ms Monauer faces away towards a shelf at H-Mart in Houston's Chinatown district on Saturday.

He lifts the baby girl up but catches the mother’s attention when a blanket appears to become caught on the child’s leg and the cart.

“I thought he was just an over-friendly guy and maybe he didn't understand what was appropriate and what wasn't,” Ms Monauer wrote.

“I didn't want to make a big scene out of it, and I generally don't want to assume that people are up to no good.

“The more I thought about it, the more wrong it appeared. Please be on the look out for this guy.”

After Ms Monauer turns to face the man, the video shows him holding the girl as she readjusts the disturbed covering. The man then places the baby back down and leaves.

Click2Houston reports police are now investigating.

Ms Monauer told the outlet she now feared the man may be a child predator.

"I wanted people to be aware that this does happen and I want to prevent the same thing from happening," she said.

"It gave me chills just thinking that this could've happened to my child and it may happen to someone else. I definitely want him to get caught."

The man is described as being about 6’1” and aged in his 50s.
