Murder victim's mum: 'I wish it was me or his father instead'

A heartbroken mother says she wishes her son's killer had taken her life, or the life of her husband instead as the man was sentenced to life behind bars.

Edgaras Kondrotas was beaten to death in a "brutal attack" after leaving a London nightspot with a stranger in January.

The court heard Mr Kondrotas had been out drinking with his girlfriend when he met Irvingas Makasejevas.

Police say a "helpless" Mr Kondrotas ended up back at Mr Makasejevas's Forest Gate property where the murder took place.

In a statement Metropolitan Police claim Mr Kondrotas was stomped on and suffered a massive internal bleed.

The 40-year-old accused later went to the police, claiming he found the victim dead on his floor.

He was arrested and on Friday, found guilty of murder.

Mr Kondrotas's mother Audra says her family has been broken by the death and described their grief as "unbearable".

"The death of Edgaras has been the biggest impact that we have ever had in our family," she said.

"We have lost our child, our very good child. He was so very good at heart, generous and supportive.

"His brothers will never see him again coming back with a smile or with a football like they used to.

"They will never be able to hug each other again."

In Friday's court hearing, the judge found Mr Makasejevas showed an "extreme level of brutality" in the murder.

Mr Kondrotas's father said his son had been taken away "too early".

Mr Makasejevas was sentenced to life imprisonment, serving a minimum 26 years behind bars for the 28-year-old's murder.
