Texas teacher charged after 'becoming pregnant' to 13-year-old student

After spending a day on the run, a 24-year-old high school teacher handed herself into police and was charged after engaging in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student, who allegedly got her pregnant.

English teacher Alexandria Vera began a sexual relationship with the boy whom she taught at Stovall Middle School in Houston, last September according to court documents obtained by ABC 13.

Their relationship reportedly sparked when the boy contacted his raven-haired teacher on Instagram, asking for her phone number and if they could hang out alone, local news KPRC Houston reported.

The young woman, who has a five-year-old daughter, told investigators at the district attorney’s office she picked the boy up from his home and they drove around for a while then kissed in her car.

The court heard Ms Vera drove to the boy's home again the following day when his parents weren’t home and had sex with him for the first time, The New York Post reported.

Their pair’s sexual relationship continued throughout the school year.

Eventually the teacher was introduced to the teenager's parents as his girlfriend and they reportedly approved of the relationship and allowed him to sleep over at Ms Vera’s home, where she had sex with him regularly, according to court documents.

Ms Vera told the court the two were in love.

Other students noticed the pair flirting at school.

“He, like, grabbed her butt and everyone saw it,” one student told ABC. “And then they were talking about it.”

The court heard the teenager’s parents "were very supportive and excited" in January to learn the woman was pregnant with their son’s baby.

She reportedly became nervous and terminated the pregnancy after Child Protective Services made an unexpected visit to the school in February, when Ms Vera and the boy were questioned about their relationship. At the time, the teacher denied the relationship and the pregnancy.

The school district Aldine ISD issued a statement saying a former Stovall Middle School teacher “involved in inappropriate behaviour with a male student” was immediately removed from the school and placed on administrative leave when the allegation was made in April.

“The safety and security of Aldine ISD’s students and staff remains a priority of the school district,” the statement said.

Ms Vera is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child.

She was released on $100,000 bond and will be sentenced at a later date.
