'Moron' climbs into tiger enclosure to retrieve hat, causes fight with zoo visitors

The moment a 'moron' jumps a fence at a Canadian zoo and climbs into a tiger enclosure has been caught on video by a shocked bystander.

The footage begins with a woman in between a safety barrier and a high fence, with the big cat pacing closely on the other side of the second fence.

It is not known how the woman's hat ended up over the fence, but she can be seen scrambling to retrieve her hat before climbing back over the fence.

Other zoo visitors can be heard telling her off for the brainless stunt while she makes her dash.

"What's going on?" one zoo-goer asks.

Another man yells at the woman risking her life: "You're a moron, you're a f****** moron," a man can be heard shouting.

"You're a bad example to everyone else's kids."

Another man asks: "She went for it?"

"Yeah, jumped in front of it like a moron," the other man responds, saying the risk was probably for a $5 hat.

After the woman scampers to safety, an argument ensues with onlookers over the stupidity of the act.

The video of the life-threatening stunt was posted to YouTube on Saturday.

Toronto Zoo spokesperson Jennifer Tracey told CBC News the woman's actions were "very irresponsible" and "the situation could have been much worse."

"She could have easily injured herself by exciting the animal in this way," she said.

If a guest does accidentally dropped something into an animal enclosure they are advised to notify zoo staff who have equipment to retrieve it safely, Ms Tracey said.
