Toby the two-nosed Australian Shepherd dodges the death penalty to becomes freak show's star attraction

An Australian shepherd born with two-noses has won a second lease on life, becoming the star attraction at a US freak show.

Toby the double-barrelled doggy was picked up by a dog catcher wandering the streets of Fresno in California and was set to be euthanized before Todd Ray discovered him.

Ray is the owner of the Venice Beach Freakshow and is known to own one of the largest collections of two-headed animals in the world.

Toby has quickly become one of the most popular parts of the show.

"Everyone that meets Toby loves him; he's the sweetest dog on Earth," Ray told the Daily Mail.

While Toby’s binary beak nearly earned him a death sentence, Ray said it was a shame people had become so focused on perfection.

"I'm fascinated by weird animals' beautiful differences and by the magical lessons that they teach us,' Ray said.

"The sad thing is that, at this time, people are at a place where they will let a two-nosed dog get put down before they will adopt him - only because he looks different."

Putting him down would have been a tragedy.

Ray said he initially suspected Toby’s nose would bring health problems but a trip to the vet allayed those fears.

He may look a little unusual but Toby was found to be in perfect health.
