God statue collapses onto crowd of worshippers

Video has emerged of the moment a religious idol collapsed onto worshippers in India, killing one man.

The giant statue of the elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesh was on display as part of a celebration known as Immersion Day.

But as crowds of people gathered around the ornate idol in the village of Krishnayapalem last month it became tangled in electrical wires became to tilt.


As shocked members of the crowd watched on the monument fell into the gathering and shattered.

The video was uploaded to YouTube about two weeks ago.

According to media reports, three people are believed to have been injured in the accident.

One man died.

Immersion Day is a religious ritual in which adherents of the Hindu religion submerge their idols in water.
