'Maxi pad bandit' robs US store

Why wear a balaclava or a mask when robbing a store, when you could just wear a strategically placed maxi pad to conceal your identity?

Such was the thinking of US thief Gary Victor, 51, who recently broke into an auto-parts store in California, while wearing his bizarre disguise.

CCTV vision captured Mr Victor, who has since been dubbed the ‘maxi pad bandit’, using a piece of wood to smash through the glass door while wearing a feminine hygiene pad over his eyes.

He then continues around the store, picking up several items before fleeing from the scene.

“Right away everybody started saying we should call this guy the maxi pad bandit,” store owner Mark Wedell told NBC Los Angeles.

Despite Mr Victor’s best efforts to disguise his identity, he had already blown his cover by approaching the store unmasked.

“We had a pretty good picture of his face cause he came to the store the first time and looked in the window without his maxi pad on,” Mr Wedell said.

Gary Victor approached the store without out his incredible maxi pad disguise.

“But when he came back and he had the maxipad over his eyes I guess he thought it was going to take care of everything.”

Mr Victor, who was already known to police, was later arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.

The 'maxi pad bandit' is far from the first crook to have their bizarre or bungled robbery caught on camera.
