Girl shaken as a baby now a walking miracle

Cheyenne Rae is a little miracle.

In 2012, when she was just eight-months-old, she had half her brain removed after being violently shaken by her father James Davis Jr.

He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the attack.

Cheyenne suffered a cracked skull and bleeding on the brain.

Her mother Amy Owensby, from South Carolina, described the horrific moment she heard what had happened.

“I dropped my happy, healthy eight-month-old baby girl off with her dad for the night,” she wrote on Facebook.

“An hour and a half later, I got the call that changed my life forever.

“My sweet baby wasn't breathing.”

Despite doctors fears she would die, she showed remarkable strength and was released from hospital only a month later.

Now four-years-old, Cheyenne has undergone multiple surgeries since the attack but is now able to walk and talk like any other young girl.

The main thing she struggles with, is limited control over her right hand or foot.

“She literally struggles DAILY from what was done to her. she can't hold a babydoll and her cup at once, she has to choose which she would rather hold at that moment bc one hand isn't working,' her mother wrote on Facebook in May.

“We've had many breakdowns in the shoe aisle where we're both crying bc the shoes she wants, won't stay on her ballerina foot.'

Cheyenne will have to undergo two more surgeries but remains positive her horrifying ordeal.

Her mother said her favourite thing to say '‘I love you to the moon and back.”
