Shock moment monkey attacks man for giving middle finger

The moral of this story is, much like smiling at a proverbial crocodile, you should never give the middle finger to a monkey.

CCTV footage has captured the moment a young man underestimated a staunch little Simian monkey's ability to read hand gestures.

He foolishly decides to try and scare the fearless animal, which is minding its own business on a footpath in the north Indian city of Shimla.

But the primate proves size does not matter when it climbs up on top of a crate and launches itself feet first at the boy.

In a display of somewhat instant karma the boy is knocked to the ground in surprise.

The monkey then cooly lands back on its feet like a kung-fu expert.

It’s not the first time man and monkey have clashed in Shimla.

Many local tourist websites warn visitors to watch out for the wily animals.

“The monkeys of Shimla are not pleasant animals, they roam around in gangs looking for the opportunity to rob tourists of their food or any other item which catches their eyes,” one website reads.

“The situation has deteriorated so much that visitors to Jakhoo temple must rent a substantial stake with which to threaten Shimla's monkeys.

“Without the deterrent of the stick expect to have pockets and bags rummaged through no less intensely than by a human criminal.”

Fortunately, the young man in the video appears shocked but unharmed after the unexpected assault.

Although it is safe to say he will probably use better manners when dealing with monkeys in the future.
