A mother in the United Kingdom has issued a desperate warning after her daughter took a fatal dose of 'diet pills' bought online.

Eloise Parry "burned up from the inside" after taking eight tablets, which contained a highly toxic substance called DNP.

The 21-year-old was rushed to hospital and died three hours later, Metro reports.

Eloise's mother, Fiona Parry, issued an emotional statement following her daughter's death on April 12.

She said Eloise’s metabolism had "exploded like TNT."

"She was literally burning up from within."

"She had taken even more of these 'slimming tablets' than recommended on the pack and had no idea just how dangerous they really were.

“When her heart stopped they couldn't revive her. They never stood a chance of saving her."

Police have launched an investigation into the website where Eloise bought the tablets.

“We are undoubtedly concerned over the origin and sale of these pills,” Chief Inspector Jennifer Mattison said.

“Substances from unregistered websites could put your health at risk as they could be extremely harmful, out-of-date or fake.

“We urge the public to be incredibly careful when purchasing medicine or supplements over the internet.”

A report is being prepared by the coroner.
