Every video game junkie knows the frustration of losing to another player, but one man has taken gamer rage to a frightening new level.

A French Counter Strike player was left fighting for life in the real world after he was hunted down and viciously stabbed by an opponent he had virtually killed months earlier.

London’s Telegraph reports Julien Barreaux spent six months looking for the real-life version of a character who killed his character in a knife fight in the popular video game.

He reportedly found him living a short distance away in the town of Cambrai, north of Paris.

Armed with a kitchen knife, the 20-year-old tracked down his cyber-foe and tried to kill him.

The victim, however, proved as frustrating an opponent in the physical world as he was in the virtual one though.

Despite Barreaux’s best efforts, the victim narrowly survived the attack when the knife missed his heart by centimetres.

Barreaux will now spend two years in jail and attend anger management sessions.

According to the Telegraph the judge called Barreaux a menace to society.

“I am frankly terrified of the disproportionate reaction you could have if someone looked at you the wrong way in the street,” the judge said.
