Elderly man rescued from Qld floodwaters

Emergency crews have rescued an elderly man whose vehicle rolled off the Bruce Highway into floodwaters on Queensland's Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.

Authorities were called to a stretch of road at Elimbah around 10am (AEST) after a car towing a caravan lost control and left the highway.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the vehicle landed at the bottom of a three metre culvert.

The man, aged in his 70s, was recovered by swift water rescue crews.

He was resuscitated at the scene before being transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.

There were initial fears another person may have been in the car at the time but a search failed to locate a second person.

Traffic is still delayed in the area.
