Playboy Mansion hid tunnels to celebrity homes
It should come as no surprise to anyone to find the Playboy Mansion holds more than a few dark secrets.
But even the staff at the magazine that shares a named with the infamous pleasure palace did not see this one coming.
The Mansion famously features everything from swimming pools to a menagerie but until now no one knew it also hid secret passages leading to the homes of some major Hollywood A-listers.
Playboy reports one of its editors made the incredible discovery while searching through the magazine's archives.
The search turned up a series of photographs and blueprints showing the construction of the tunnels in the 1970s
“So, according [to] this blueprint, tunnels were built to the homes of “Mr. J. Nicholson,” “Mr. W. Beatty,” “Mr. K. Douglas” and “Mr. J. Caan,”” the magazine wrote.
“We’ll go ahead and assume they’re talking about Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Kirk Douglas and James Caan – all of whom lived near the Playboy Mansion during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
"There are no dates on the architectural schematics, but the dates on the Polaroids were from 1977.”
Unsurprisingly, none of the actors responded to Playboy’s invitations to comment on the story, nor did the father of the company himself, Hugh Hefner.
According to the magazine, an interview request was quickly rebuffed by staff at the Hollywood mansion, who simply told them Mr Hefner did not wish to comment.
The magazine said an unnamed staff member confirmed the tunnels had long laid dormant after being closed in 1989; the same year Hefner married Playmate Kimberley Conrad.
Playboy is now calling for anyone who saw or used the tunnels to come forward to explain more about their hidden history.
