Man kills whole family on prison visit

A former police officer, already sentenced to life in jail, murdered his whole family when they visited him in prison.

Domingo Villa, 40, stabbed his girlfriend, two children and stepdaughter to death using a sharpened wire, before trying to take his own life.

Isela, 36, had taken the children to the Puente Grande prison in Mexico, to see Villa who had been in jail since 2006 for killing his wife in a jealous rage.

Villa reportedly said that he stabbed the family after became furious when the children complained that their mother was unkind to them.

His 17-year-old stepdaughter escaped with severe wounds, but later died from the injures, while Villa's four-year-old son and baby daughter died at the scene.

Villa later told that he had made the weapon in a prison handicraft workshop.

State Attorney General Luis Najera admitted that the visit had been unsupervised and that no guards were nearby when the attack happened.

"The prison officers were checking the entrance. The supervisor was inspecting a far-off cell and no one realised what was happening until the 17-year-old daughter cried for help," said Najera , reported The Mirror.

The prison director failed to explain why no one had been watching him.

A "system of self-government" is growing in Mexico's prisons, with inmates buying off staff, taking drugs and arranging visits from prostitutes, Mexico's Human Rights Commission said according to The Mirror.
