Bride and dying groom plan wedding in days

A bride and dying groom planned and organised their dream wedding in just a few days thanks to the overwhelming generosity of strangers.

Paul Kitchen, 27, who has been battling a rare form of bone cancer, wed with his long-time sweetheart Nicole Booth yesterday, only a week after they decided to tie the knot.

The couple's hasty nuptials came after doctors delivered a heartbreaking prognosis - Paul's condition was worsening.

Within hours of posting an appeal on Facebook, hundreds of kind-hearted strangers flocked to offer their services and turn what seemed like an impossible dream into a reality.

A charity which offers free wedding services for patients with terminal illness launched the appeal asking for anyone who could help with a bouquet for the bride, buttonhole for the groom, catering for around 20 people, balloons and a wedding cake.

Donations flooded in thick and fast, and by 11pm on Wednesday the wedding plans were complete.

Paul's dad, Joe Kitchen, said the pair were overwhelmed by the public's generosity and kindness.

"Paul and Nicole have been wanting to get married for a long time but because of my son's condition they weren't able to plan it properly," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"Thanks to this fantastic organisation they were able to sort it within a few hours.

"Paul used to work at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Ashton and has spent his life helping other people.

"That's why it is so nice that people have been able to return that kindness."

Paul, from Manchester, England, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in 2013.

He underwent a successful round of treatment, but the cancer returned in September last year.

He has been receiving palliative care for the past four weeks.
