Groom beats bride over stubborn wedding dress

Just hours after her dream wedding, Amy Dawson was left beaten and bloody after her husband viciously assaulted her because he could not remove her wedding dress.

She had married her long-term partner Gavin Golightly in front of family and friends in Durham County, England, then after a night of fun at their wedding reception, they retired to their room.

It was then her day turned to a nightmare.

Ms Dawson asked for help to get out of her dress, but Golightly was unable to assist and attacked her, The Mirror reports.

He threw Ms Dawson to the ground and punched her, leaving her with a cut eyebrow and bruising to her chest and face, prosecutors alleged.

Golightly had claimed he had his drink spiked before the attack and was unable to remember any of it, but later admitted to one count of assault.

He was given a two-year community order, but Ms Dawson said it was not punishment enough.

"When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought I was going to die. I was terrifed. He looked like he was going to kill me,” she told The Mirror.

"After the attack, he left the room and I tried to escape, but he came back in and continued to beat me."

She said she was devastated by the way the day had ended.

"It was a huge celebration full of friends and family, and I thought it would have been the fresh start we needed," she said.

Golightly was also slapped with a restraining order, preventing any direct or indirect contact with Ms Dawson.
