A simple spell check or proofread could have avoided this rather embarrassing - and costly - blunder.

A fast-food restaurant in southern England was forced to reprint its menus, after accidentally offering its customers 'baked Aborigines' in its choice of pizza topping.

Super Pizza, who produced the leaflet, admitted the unusual ingredient had been an innocent typo and should have read 'aubergine'.

However, the leaflet was distributed to hundreds of homes in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, before the error was realised.

The restaurant said of the blunder: "It was a mistake. We don't want to comment any further."

It has since printed a new version of the menu, offering the correct vegetarian options, minus our Aussie native.

One diner, Richard Coombes, told the UK Daily Mail: "I've heard of a typo but this takes it to another level.

"I love the Aussies but I wouldn't want to eat them on a pizza."
