Love hopeful fakes death to get out of date
We've all done it - made up an excuse to get out of a bad date, but one internet dater took her escape plan one step beyond the grave - faking her own death.
Ann Gray, from Somerset in the UK, decided after a third date with her online love interest that he was not the one.
She tried to let him down gently, but the persistent romantic failed to get the hint, the UK's Daily Mirror reports.
"He continued to message me and the day came when he sent me one stating 'I think we need to have a date tonight! I will be around your house in 30 minutes,'" Ann explained.
The 29-year-old turned to Plan B, and sent him a series of text messages pretending to be a family member.
"I am really sorry to tell you but Anne was taken ill last night with a very serious illness, so she won't be available for a while," she wrote. "Sorry about that. If and when she comes around and is feeling better, I will get her to call you."
The pursuit did not end there, much to Ann's despair.
"OK what ward is she on? I will come and visit her now," the ditched love interest replied.
A second message followed shortly: "I am outside the hospital now. Can I come in if you tell me what ward she is in?"
In a desperate bid to shake off the unwanted attention, Ann replied: "I am really sorry to tell you but we lost her last night."
Although Ann never received a response from her cast-off, he caught her on another dating website a couple of months later.
The spurned dater sent Ann a 'horrid message' but she says she can't blame him.
"I am currently engaged to be married and not dead."
