Wrong-way driver crashes into police in dramatic video

Police have released dramatic footage of the crash.

Police have released footage showing the moment a pensioner with dementia, driving at high speed on the wrong side of the road, crashed into them.

In the video the police can be heard exclaiming that the car was going to collide with them head on, before a loud crash sounds out.

The car had been reported travelling southbound on a northbound highway on Wednesday.

The driver - an elderly man with Alzheimer’s - had earlier been reported missing by his family.

In the heart-in-your-mouth footage, uploaded to YouTube, brave police officers prevented a serious collision after the car travelled towards oncoming traffic.

Two traffic officers risked a head-on collision by deliberately blocking the path of the 77-year-old man’s Honda Jazz as it hurtled along on the outside lane approaching a junction with three lanes of oncoming traffic, said police.

The elderly man was safely brought to a stop in a controlled crash by the two “apprehensive” officers of West Midlands Police in the UK.

“The 77-year-old driver, who has dementia, was not injured during his ordeal and, after being checked over by paramedics, was taken home to his family.”, the police force said.
