He was already the oldest living person and, at 115 years and 253 days, Jiroemon Kimura is now officially the oldest man to have ever lived.
Mr Kimura, of Japan, became the oldest living person earlier this month after American Dina Manfredini passed away aged 115 years, 241 days.
And he has now surpassed Thomas Peter Thorvald Kristian Ferdinand 'Christian' Mortensen as the oldest-ever man, Guinness World Records have confirmed in a statement.
Born in Kyotango City in Kyoto on April 19, 1897, he has lived over three centuries and is only the third man in history to reach the age of 115.
Throughout his life, he has seen 20 US Presidents take power, five Emperors of Japan and Six UK Monarchs.
Born the same year Dracula was published and the Klondike Gold Rush began, Mr Kimura worked at the Post Office until he was 65, retiring in 1962, the year before the Beatles released Please Please Me.
With an amazing 14 grand-children, 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren, he puts his longevity down to ‘eating light to living long’.
He still has some way to go to become the oldest person ever to have lived though – with Jeanne Calment of France having lived to 122 years and 164 days.
Guinnes World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said: "The record for oldest living man lies at the very heart of Guinness World Records and to be able to present Mr Kimura his second Guinness World Records title is truly an honour.
"Kimura-san is an exceptional person, we know of only four other male super centenarians alive today, and incredibly, he is only the third man in history to reach the age of 115."
