The nicest house on the street

"Location, location, location. One bedroom, quiet neighbours, close to transport."

An elderly Chinese couple who refused to move out of their apartment building to make way for a new development has found themselves surrounded by a huge freeway.

Luo Baogen and his wife refused to vacate their home, claiming the compensation offered by the government would not be enough to rebuild.

Construction crews and demolition experts destroyed the surrounding buildings, leaving Mr Baogen's home standing, and began construction on the motorway.

All is quiet on Mr Baogen's new street for now - but that will change when the road is opened to traffic.

It's not uncommon for tenants to refuse to budge for developers since laws in China made it harder for builders to simply force stubborn homeowners out.

At least the commute will be easy.
