Worcestershire woman brings home gold biathle medal
An athlete from Worcestershire has brought home gold after competing in the World Biathle Championships.
Georgia Lees, 21, from Wolverley, picked up the sport in July and had only done two races before the competition in Bali earlier this month.
Biathles are like a triathlon, but without the cycling, where participants taken on a run, then a swim, followed by a second run.
Taking home the medal, Miss Lees said is "so surreal".
During her school years, Miss Lees took part in biathlons, which are a single run and a swim with a break between.
"I was injured for two years," she said.
"I just had a look at what events Pentathlon GB had upcoming and I saw they had a biathle and I looked into it myself because I didn't actually know what it was either.
"I just entered it and went from there."
She said the championship race was "so so tough" but said she was determined to do well.
"When I took the lead, there was no way I was going to get any other medal," she said.
"I still can't believe it, it is so surreal.
"I feel literally amazing, I can't believe it."
