Woolworths staff reveal secret customer acts: 'Almost made me cry'

Woolworths staffers have taken to social media to share some of the most memorable experiences they've had while serving customers.

One employee kicked off a thread on a Facebook page dedicated to Woolworths workers by asking fellow staffers to share tales of good deeds.

“Does anyone have any pay-it forward stories?” she asked.

The staffer revealed that the day before, she witnessed a generous Woolies customer pay for another shopper’s groceries.

“I had a customer yesterday pay $50 for the customer behind,” she wrote.

Several Woolworths team members responded in the comments with their own heartwarming stories of kind acts from staff and shoppers.

“Sometimes when customers are short [of cash] and need to take things off, I’ll just tap my card for it. If they look like good people or need it,” wrote a charitable staffer.

Another revealed she tried to put “1000 points” on a compassionate customer’s Rewards card after they paid the groceries of an elderly woman who left her wallet at home.

Woolworths have been contacted by Yahoo News Australia for comment.

Meanwhile, various Woolies team members revealed that they had witnessed shoppers offering to pay for desperate customers who were caught short at the checkout.

“I had a customer a couple weeks back who was about $20 short, and was quite obviously buying stuff for her kids to take to school. [The] lady from the register across handed her a $50 [note] and said, ‘Don’t worry about it’,” explained one staffer.

“About a year ago, an old lady couldn’t get her Eftpos card to work and only had about $70 on it. The man behind said he’d pay as he just won lotto... Awesome guy,” wrote a second.

A third Woolworths worker described how she witnessed a woman offer to cover the remaining $85 on a man’s Christmas shopping bill, despite having her own massive holiday shop to pay for.

Another staffer recounted witnessing elderly customers “crying and cuddling” after a kind-hearted stranger paid for their groceries without their knowledge.

“I told them the gentleman paid for it all and they were just so gobsmacked. Cried even more and went, ‘There’s still good people in the world’ [which] almost made me cry. They were the sweetest and didn’t get to thank him at all,” the employee revealed.

Additionally, a staff member revealed that a regular customer always allows whoever is behind him to scan their Rewards card on his orders over $300 to collect his points.

These heartwarming stories come after a Woolworths team member received rave reviews earlier this month for helping a woman pack her groceries and take them to her car while the customer fed her baby.

In another uplifting moment, a Sydney husband and wife were "brought to tears" this week after a fellow Woolies customer paid for their unusually large haul of bread and sausages, which they were buying for an event to raise money for Lismore flood victims.
