Woolies plastic bag ban today: what you need to know

Shopping at Woolworths will never be the same!

The supermarket giant (and their other brands, including BWS) will no longer provide free, single-use plastic bags from today (Wednesday 20 June).

Customers will have to either pay 15 cents for a re-usable plastic bag, $0.99 – $2.50 for a material bag or bring their own bag or box to carry their groceries.

Queensland and Western Australia are implementing statewide bag bans from July 1, following earlier bans by South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

Victoria has announced its own ban but provided no timeline.

New South Wales has not joined the nationwide sweep, but Woolworths and Coles are making the move on their own initiative, along with a number of other retailers.

Coles will follow suit, banning bags from July 1.
