Women's FA Cup round-up: Wolves and Newcastle win big, London Bees out
There were big first-round wins in the Women's FA Cup for third-tier sides Wolves, Newcastle United and West Brom but London Bees suffered a shock exit.
Fifth-tier Dulwich Hamlet beat the Bees, who play two tiers above them, 2-0 while Hashtag United are also out.
Fellow third-tier side Nottingham Forest thrashed fourth-tier Sheffield United 7-0 but six-time winners Doncaster Belles were knocked out.
The second round proper begins on Sunday 26 November.
A total of 136 teams play in the FA Cup first round proper but several matches on Sunday were postponed.
Third-tier West Brom came from behind to beat fifth-tier Lye Town 8-2 while Northern Premier side Wolves also put eight goals past Stourbridge without reply as Jade Cross scored a hat-trick.
There were also big wins for Newcastle United, who beat sixth-tier Mancunian Unity 9-2 as Jas McQuade scored a hat-trick, and fourth-tier Exeter City, who were 8-0 winners against Helston Athletic.
The biggest victory of the day went to fourth-tier Boldmere St Michaels, who beat Wyberton Wildcats 13-0, while Solihull Moors, Liverpool Feds and Derby County also progressed.
Northern Premier Cheltenham Town beat Division One South West side Cardiff 3-0 as another third-tier side Stoke City thrashed fifth-tier Dunton and Broughton United 6-0.
Fourth-tier Durham Cestria sprung a shock as they beat AFC Fylde, who are in the tier above them, 1-0 and Northern Premier leaders Burnley beat Huddersfield Town - who are in the same league - 2-1 thanks to goals from Amaya Coleman Evans and Laura Elford.
After reaching the fourth round of the competition last year, third-tier Hashtag United lost 1-0 to Norwich, who play in the tier below them.
Fifth-tier Bristol Rovers beat Portishead Town, who are in the tier above them, 3-1 while FC United of Manchester are bottom of the Division One North but beat York City, who sit eighth in the same league, 2-0.
Earlier this week the FA announced an increase in the Women's FA Cup prize fund, doubling the pot to £6m with the winners earning £430,000, up from £100,000 in 2022-23.
Championship teams enter the FA Cup in the third round while Women's Super League teams will enter in the fourth round.
