Woman's stunning lotto win after $25 mistake
A woman from South Australia was delighted to find out she had won almost $1 million, after mistakenly thinking she had won just $25 in Saturday's lotto draw.
The woman aged in her 50s from Port Lincoln was one of six division one winners in Saturday X Lotto draw 4151, who each took home $974,297.53.
The woman was contacted by an official from The Lott to confirm her division one win, but she was adamant she had only won $25.
“I checked my ticket this morning. I crossed the numbers off on my ticket and saw I’d won $25,” she explained.
She was then in complete disbelief when it was confirmed she had actually won the division one prize.
“Oh, get out! Are you serious? Division one!? Blooming heck! Are you for real?" she asked.
“I don’t know how I mistook the numbers, but it was early in the morning. I don’t know how I didn’t see it!"
She explained she had been playing those numbers, 5, 31, 14, 22, 42 and 18 and supplementary number 1 and 8 for "a while".
"It’s something you don’t expect to happen!” she said.
Retirement on the horizon for lotto winner
Though the woman was still trying to comprehend her huge win, she did have a few ideas on how she was going to spend her fortune — and retirement might just be an option.
“I think my working days may be numbered!” she said.
“I’ll be able to give up work and help my family.”
The woman purchased the 12-game entry from newsXpress Beers Port Lincoln and owner Joy Whennen was very excited a local had won.
“How good it is to have a winner in Port Lincoln!” she said, while wishing the woman all the best.
This week $15 million is up for grabs in OzLotto on Tuesday, while someone could take out $20 million in Powerball on Thursday.
