An elderly woman has become an instant multi-millionaire by complete mistake after accidentally playing her own numbers twice.
The woman, in her 70s, won big in the Wednesday Lotto, but felt guilty because she had meant to buy one of the tickets using her partner’s numbers.
Monday and Wednesday Lotto offers $1 million to up to four players, meaning because of her mistake she won $2 million.
“I used my Playslip for this week’s Monday and Wednesday Lotto and when I realised I hadn’t used my partner’s Playslip, I felt so guilty that I couldn’t tell him what I’d done,” she said in a Lotterywest statement.
“I think he’s forgiven me now though.”
The winner, who lives in Noranda, a suburb of Perth, said she often filled out Playslips to choose her own numbers.
“The win will mean a bit more travelling, we’ll replace the car and it gives us an opportunity to be kind and generous to others,” she said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman described it as a “lovely story and a fantastic win for Western Australia”.
She added punters could try their luck in next Saturday’s $20 million Superdraw.
Tickets can be purchased from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.
