Woman's tragic death after making disturbing discovery on boyfriend's phone

A 21-year-old woman took her own life after discovering child pornography on her boyfriend’s phone, an inquest into her death has found.

Lydia Roberts, from Radcliffe in northwest England, became embroiled in a heated argument with her partner of two years Adam Wells in June 2017 after she discovered the illicit material on a second phone he owned, The Manchester Evening News reported.

After leaving their shared apartment for a night out with friends, Wells, 27, returned at 3.30am to find Ms Roberts’ body, the inquest heard.

Coroner Zak Golombek ruled Ms Robert’s death as suicide, noting she had a history of mental illness.

Wells was charged over possessing 31 indecent photographs of children and was sentenced to a 12-month community order and 150 hours of unpaid work, MEN reported.

He was made to pay a victim surcharge of £85 (A$160) and was placed on the sex offenders register.

Ms Roberts’ mother Michelle revealed her family’s devastation over her death in a statement heard by the court.

“Lydia felt violated, hurt and disgusted at what she found... I feel that [Wells] made her make the decision to do what she did,” she said.

“As a family we are devastated at the loss of our beautiful daughter and for this we will never forgive him.”
