‘What could it be?': Woman’s 'creepy' find in hotel bathtub

A woman’s “creepy” find in her hotel bathroom has caused a raucous online.

She posted images of the disturbing discovery in a Facebook group on Wednesday (local time) in a bid to find out what it was.

“I’m in a hotel and I just noticed that the bath drain has a light coming from it. What could it be?” she wrote.

The post quickly attracted thousands of viewers, hundreds of which offered their two cents as to the cause of the light.

“That’s clearly a portal to hell,” one woman said.

“Uh dunno, but if someone down there asks if you'd like a balloon, just say no,” another woman said alluding to the movie IT.

“The room below… some dud is waiting down there to shower in your bathwater,” a man joked.

“That is creepy as f***! All kinda NOPE in that!” a third woman chimed in.

Hotel workers explain what could be causing light

However, numerous people who said they worked in hotels did help put the woman’s mind to ease.

“Most hotels have a chase between the rooms where all the mechanical systems are exposed so they can be maintained,” a woman said.

“If the trap in the tub is plastic and the maintenance person left the light in the chase on, it will be visible in your room. That's probably what's happening here.”

A man said that’s how he can tell when his basement lights are on.

“I’ve done maintenance in a few hotels. A lot of them have a ‘wet wall’, the bathrooms all back up to each other with a service corridor down the middle. Someone left the light on lol,” another man said.

The original poster thanked people for their explanations and said she hopes the light was coming from a maintenance corridor.
