Woman wins major lottery jackpots two days in a row

A woman has won two major lottery jackpots in two consecutive days.

While most people dream of winning the lottery just once, Orlene Peterson is still trying to process the fact that she won twice in 48 hours.

The woman, from the US state of Idaho, bought herself a few scratchies on Friday (local time) in Hayden and couldn’t believe her luck when she scratched off one ‘Grand Fortune ticket’ to reveal a $200,000 (A$258,000) prize.

“When I scanned the ticket, it said I had to contact the Idaho Lottery for my winnings. That had never happened before when I was playing. I checked it and it was a $200,000 winner. I couldn’t believe it,” Ms Peterson told local news outlet KTVB.

The next day, Ms Peterson was still feeling lucky and decided to have a go on another scratchie and couldn’t believe her luck when she won even more than the day before.

“When I scanned it and said I had to claim it at the lottery, I thought maybe it was $1,000 (A$1280). I never imagined it would be $300,000 (A$388,000) and that it happened again. The next day,” she said.

While her new fortune is still sinking in, Ms Peterson said she will use the money to pay a few bills, buy a new truck and see if her good luck continues with a trip to Las Vegas.

Lottery officials estimate the odds of one person buying two six-figure winning scratch tickets over two consecutive days is around 1 in 282.5 million, KTVB reports.
