Woman walking along city street suddenly vanishes into sinkhole
Video has captured the terrifying moment a woman fell into a sinkhole that suddenly opened up beneath her feet in northwestern China.
In the CCTV video, captured in Lanzhou City in Gansu Province last Sunday, a busy footpath suddenly collapses underneath a woman walking by, completely swallowing her up.
Bystanders were initially reluctant to help the woman, fearing the footpath would continue to crumble under their weight, however she was eventually rescued with a rope, according to local reports.
The woman was reportedly taken to hospital and suffered broken ribs.
The case is being investigated by authorities.
The incident comes after three previous sinkholes reportedly appeared in the city already this year.
