Woman in vegetative state for over a decade gives birth
A woman who has been in a vegetative state for at least a decade has given birth, sparking investigations.
The woman has given birth after being in a vegetative state for 14 years at the Hacienda HealthCare facility in the US state of Arizona, CBS reported.
However, police are investigating a potential sexual abuse case after the woman mysteriously gave birth on December 29, the New York Times reported.
Staff at the facility were not aware of her pregnancy and only realised she was giving birth when she started moaning.
“We have recently become aware of a deeply disturbing incident involving the health and safety of a Hacienda resident,” Hacienda Healthcare spokesman David Leibowitz said, according to the New York Times.
“While federal and state privacy laws prohibit us from publicly discussing a patient’s health or case, Hacienda has and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and all the relevant regulatory agencies regarding this matter.”
