Woman struck and killed by flying debris in front of young children

A 38-year-old woman has died after debris from a truck struck the vehicle she was travelling in with three young boys.

Emergency services found the seriously injured woman on Newell Highway, about 25km north of Parkes, at 5pm on Friday.

Debris from a truck travelling in the opposite direction allegedly hit the Toyota SUV carrying the woman, three young children and a male driver.

Despite attempts to revive her, she passed away at the scene.

The 42-year-old driver of the Toyota, and the three boys, aged four, six and nine, were taken to Parkes Hospital as a precaution and released.

The truck driver, a 52-year-old man, was also taken to Parkes Hospital for mandatory testing.

Following investigations, on Saturday the truck driver was arrested for driving an unsafely loaded vehicle causing death.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Parkes Local Court on March 16.

Investigations are continuing.
