Woman put makeup on dead baby to hide injuries from doctors

A woman is facing years behind bars after she allegedly put makeup on her daughter's dead body to hide her injuries from doctors.

Tyra Anderson, 28, of Washington, DC, told police her daughter Mackenzie fell from her bed in a hotel room they were staying in on February 3, 2020, according to documents filed in the Superior Court.

The hotel was acting a homeless shelter at the time.

However, she did not seek medical attention for Mackenzie despite the fact she “was not active and not acting like herself”.

Anderson found her daughter unresponsive and “cold to the touch” on February 6. She took Mackenzie to Children’s National Medical Center where the 11-month-old was pronounced dead.

According to an affidavit filed in the court, Anderson told a witness Mackenzie “falls often”.

“Isn’t that f***** up?” she told hospital staff, referring to her daughter’s condition.

The affidavit claims Anderson was seen on CCTV carrying her deceased daughter into hospital wrapped in a blanket.

The mum told doctors she did not seek treatment for the girl sooner because she was scared.

The Chief Medical Examiner examined Mackenzie’s body the following day. Staff washed her body and found brown residue on towels and sponges which resembled makeup or a type of cosmetic.

They also found multiple contusions to Mackenzie’s head and face along with skull fractures and other injuries. It was determined the little girl died from blunt force trauma.

Anderson has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and could face 10 years behind bars with three suspended.

She is due to be sentenced in March.
