Woman pulls husband unconscious from water after fatal jet ski accident

A New South Wales family has unfolded on the banks of Hawkesbury River after a woman pulled her husband’s unconscious body from the water after a jet ski accident.

Distraught family members could only watch on as paramedics frantically tried to save the 49-year-old, but it was too late.

Father of two Ehsan Salmanzader was one of three men who were thrown from a jet ski. A second man made it safely to shore, but a 59-year-old man is still missing and feared dead.

“It was quite heart breaking,” Hawkesbury Police Chief Inspector Garry Sims told 7 News.

“They were a large group of friends enjoying a pretty much picture perfect day on the Hawkesbury. And as you can imagine they’re all quite devastated.”

The group were extended family members visiting from Merrylands for a day of jet-skiing before tragedy struck.

Police are still trying to work out what went wrong, however it is believed the three men were thrown from the jet ski after attempting a turn at high speed. None of them were wearing a life jacket.

“Wearing lifejackets when on any sort of water craft is the best way to keep you and your family safe,” said NSW Ambulance’s Inspector Giles Buchanan.

The police helicopter landed in the middle of a junior cricket game at Birchgrove to collect divers to join a search of the riverbed.

Police divers spent Sunday looking along the Hawkesbury River for any sign of the 59-year-old. They will suspend the search overnight and resume at first light Monday as a recovery effort.
