A woman has been left with serious injuries to her face after attempting to separate two dogs in South Yorkshire.

The Cane Corso dog attacked the other family pet on Friday as she sat on the sofa with it, police said, leaving the woman, aged in her 30s, requiring plastic surgery.

The following day a different Cane Corso - a large mastiff breed - bit another woman while she tried to separate it from an XL bully.

The second woman also needed hospital treatment, with both Cane Corso dogs seized by South Yorkshire Police.

Ch Insp Emma Cheney, force lead on dangerous dogs, warned dog owners to be aware of any changes in the actions of their pets.

“Dogs that have experienced stress or anxiety can take a few days to return to their normal behaviour," she said.
