A woman with two children in her car has been caught driving at almost five times the legal blood-alcohol limit in regional Victoria.

The 36-year-old was behind the wheel in Wendouree, a suburb of Ballarat, when she was involved in a minor crash and failed to exchange details about 4pm on Friday.

Police located and intercepted the car she was driving with two young children inside and the Miners Rest woman returned a positive breath test and later blew 0.224 at the police station.

Her car was immediately impounded and she is expected to be charged on summons for drink-driving offences.
