Woman live-streams boyfriend after 'she set home ablaze'

Chinese police have arrested a woman for arson after she allegedly set fire to her flat using a roll of toilet paper and sent a live stream to her boyfriend.

The woman surnamed Chen, who police say is in her 40s, had been left at home alone following a heated argument with her boyfriend, Zhao.

The couple have been together for two years and rent the property in the city of Zunyi in south-western China’s Guizhou Province.

According to Chen, while quarrelling with her boyfriend, she promised to move out if he gave her 500 RMB – roughly $100 – in cash, thinking he would never “buy her out” like that.

She was left fuming when Zhao slammed 500 RMB on the table and left, expecting her to be gone by the time he returned.

The furious Chen began drinking and later sent a drunken live stream to her boyfriend after allegedly lighting a roll of toilet paper and tossing it on their sofa, sparking the blaze.

The video shows the woman laughing and crying at the same time, saying: “It’s on fire! It’s on fire! Happy, happy!”

Zhao called the police and rushed home as soon as he saw the video.

The fire service was able to put out the fire and salvage the flat, but the couple’s sofa, television, fridge and other appliances were damaged beyond repair, reports said.

The police have detained Chen on suspicion of arson.

It is still unclear what punishment she will receive.
