Woman left heartbroken after thieves steal mother's ashes

A Melbourne woman has been left heartbroken after her mother’s ashes were stolen when thieves ransacked her parents’ home.

Andrea Lohmar is now appealing for her most precious possession to be safely returned.

Ms Lohmar arrived at her parent’s home in Noble Park North in Melbourne’s southeast to find the front door had been kicked in.

She feared the worst and headed straight into the lounge room.

“I noticed that the bag with mum’s jewellery had been moved and then I noticed that the urn was missing from behind the jewellery,” she said.

The mother’s ashes were kept inside the urn after she died in May.

“My first words were ‘mum has gone, where’s mum gone?’,” Ms Lohmar said.

“It was her final wish to be in an urn and to be in her home and not be out in the cemetery.”

Fortunately the thieves didn’t find her father’s ashes which were in the front bedroom.

“It’s of no use or no value to anyone else, but it’s everything to me,” she said.

Ms Lohmar was going to renovate her parents’ home and move in but she says the robbery has left her so distraught, she’s removed all the personal possessions from inside and is going to sell.

“It doesn’t feel like home anymore,” she said.

But before the house goes on the market, Ms Lohmar desperately wants her most precious possession returned safely.

“I feel sick and I haven’t slept in days and i just want my mum home,” she said.
