Woman gets 'knife stuck in her face' in attempted robbery of tobacconists

A woman working at a tobacconist shop in Sydney’s west has escaped losing an eye after a kitchen knife was allegedly thrown at her in an attempted robbery, lodging in her face.

A 14-year-old boy has since been arrested over the incident.

Police allege the teenager was armed with a knife when he entered the shop in Parramatta, in Sydney's west, about 7.45pm on Monday.

Officers said he approached the counter and threatened the 24-year-old female employee with the knife and demanded money.

“An altercation occurred between the pair and the male allegedly threw a kitchen knife at the woman that hit her in the face, just missing her eye,” a police statement said.

“He ran from the store in company of a second man who was waiting outside.”

The woman was treated for a stab wound to her head and taken to Westmead Hospital where she remains in a stable condition after undergoing surgery to remove the knife.

About 1am on Tuesday police attended a home in The Ponds and arrested the boy.

He was charged with armed robbery and using a weapon to cause wounding and refused bail. He is due to appear in children’s court on Tuesday.
