A Queensland man has been charged with the murder of his elderly mother at a home north of Brisbane.
The 50-year-old was charged on Friday, less than a day after the body of his 75-year-old mother was discovered at the house in Mango Hill.
Police descended upon the home just after 1pm after receiving a triple zero call.
They located the dead woman as well as the man, with what have been described as significant injuries.
He was taken to hospital under guard and in a stable condition.
After being charged with murder the man faced a bedside hearing on Friday and the matter was adjourned until August 27 for mention in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
Some reports claim the woman may have been dead for up to a day before her body was discovered.
Students from nearby Mango Hill State School were escorted by police past the scene while shocked residents said the alleged crime had left the quiet, family area stunned.
"I'm honestly in shock; I can't believe somebody's just died at the end of our street," Emma Bowden told the Nine Network.
The home remains a crime scene with forensic officers combing for clues.
