Woman killed in Melbourne house fire

A woman has died in a house fire in Melbourne’s outer southeast.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning at a home in the suburb of Emerald.

The woman is yet to be formally identified, police said in a statement.

Two other people were in the house at the time but escaped uninjured.

The incident happened at a house on Kilvington Drive at about 2.40am.

Police have set up a crime scene and are investigating.

However, the fire is not thought to be suspicious, police said in a statement.

Another woman and a man were inside the house at the time but managed to evacuate.

Police are calling for any witnesses to come forward.
