'You never fail to deliver': Pregnant woman shopping at IKEA goes into labour

A heavily pregnant woman whose baby was five days overdue has credited IKEA meatballs for giving her body the push it needed to induce labour.

Kayleigh Hogarty had been perusing the Swedish retailer’s Exeter store in the UK on June 14 when she opted to pass through the food court for a bite on her way out.

“After being five days overdue, I could not wait any longer to get a quick shop at Ikea Exeter,” Ms Hogarty wrote in a post to Facebook.

“I finished my shop with an obligatory stop to get some beautiful meatballs, but I just couldn’t contain my excitement.”

She made a swift dash to the bathroom, where her waters broke about 3.25pm (local time) and by 10.01 that evening, she had given birth.

The new mother didn’t pass up the prime opportunity to crack a dorky dad joke following her child’s quirky entrance to the world.

“IKEA… you never fail to deliver,” she said, uploading a photo of a heavy-duty IKEA bag filled to the brim with sheets and blankets, with her adorable sleeping baby on top.

“Only just getting round to unpacking now.”

In a reply to her post, an IKEA spokesperson offered their congratulations and well wishes.

“That's fantastic, Congratulations!! Your little boy is looking absolutely wonderful in our Blue Bag. We hope you're both doing well.”

IKEA Exeter store manager Nick Earle also expressed his excitement at the news.

“We are aware that one of our customers went into labour whilst visiting IKEA Exeter and we are delighted to hear that both mother and baby are doing well after his arrival,” he told UK newspaper Devon Live.

“We would love to welcome them both back to our store for a visit soon.”
