How woman was forced to escape stalker as she walked home from night out
A woman has been forced to barricade herself inside her apartment after a stranger followed her into the Melbourne building to confront her.
Disturbing footage shows the unknown man, who didn’t have a security pass for the front door, slinking into the foyer of the apartment block before hiding behind a wall as the woman, identified only as Sarah, waited for an elevator.
On her own, she began to worry when he followed her into the lift.
“I was just worried that he was going to attack me,” she revealed.
The man fled after she screamed at the top of her voice but Victoria Police are yet to investigate the incident, which happened six months ago.
“Nothing would be followed up because a crime, in their words, had not been committed,” she said, despite sharing the footage with police on two occasions.
Sarah, 44, had been on a night out with friends and was followed on her walk home from Richmond to South Yarra.
She was so terrified during the incident she barricaded herself in her apartment.
“I pushed my dining room table and chairs up against the door,” she said.
Sarah said the man had no legitimate reason for being on her floor of the building on that night.
There are only two other apartments on her level and none of the residents recognised the man or had been expecting visitors.
There are strong similarities to her confrontation and an attack against an 18-year-old woman outside an apartment in Richmond last month.
Both women were followed by strangers up lifts to their front doors.
Sarah revealed she hasn’t seen the man since the scare but remains on edge.
