Woman finds cat missing for a week trapped in unbelievable spot

A woman has been left “completely bewildered” after she says she found her cat who had been missing for a week stuck under a cement flower pot.

The mother said she was walking home from her son’s school drop-off and decided to start calling her cat’s name when she was relieved to hear meows coming from a neighbour’s front yard.

“I follow the sound to a plate-sized shallow cement flower pot upside down on the ground and flip it over and out came my cat,” the feline owner wrote on Facebook.

After finding her cat “wet and mud all through her coat, trapped and lying in less than 5cm of space”, the woman took to a community Facebook group to help solve the mystery of how her cat became trapped in the unusual spot.

“Is this kids trying to hide a secret pet? Or did someone try to drown her and then leave her to die? Have they had her all week? Any thoughts?” she asked the group.

Some people suggested it might have been “foul play”.

“I can’t bear to think what the back story is to this,” one person said.

“Leaves a really sick feeling in my stomach to know that there are people who would even contemplate cruelty like that. So glad she is home safe with you again,” another person added.

“I’d be happy to think so, my mind is blown by the alternative,” the pet owner responded.

Many people thought it was a case of a cat “too curious” for its own good.

“This happened to our cat in our backyard. Jumped on the edge of the bird bath and the bowl tipped up. She may have died if we hadn’t heard her howl, she was drenched. I would never have predicted it if I hadn’t seen it happen,” one person responded.

“I’d say this was a misadventure and the cat was just in the wrong spot when the bowl flipped, I’m amazed the owner of the house didn’t hear the cat though,” another person agreed.

After many members of the group shared stories of animals becoming trapped under bird baths and pots, the pet owner agreed it was most likely what had happened to her beloved cat.

“I had never heard of bird baths falling on cats as a ‘thing’ but I now think this is what happened, which is a great relief,” she updated the group.

After searching the yard for clues she wrote she had found a plinth, which she suspected is where the cement pot flipped over from, and thankfully the moggy got the all clear from the vet.

“She has also been to the vet and is ok apart from some superficial injuries,” the mother said.
