Woman fights for life after 'boyfriend set her on fire while she slept'

A 20-year-old woman is fighting for her life with 60 per cent of her body covered in burns after reportedly being doused in petrol and set on fire by her boyfriend while she slept.

The incident occurred in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, where Bernarda Massolo, from Argentina, and her 34-year-old boyfriend Angel Gabriel Rolon arrived as backpacking tourists.

Reports suggest Mr Rolon sprayed Ms Massolo with petrol as she was sleeping and set her on fire, leaving her with burns to 60 per cent of her body.

She reportedly suffered second and third degree burns and is currently in intensive care as her respiratory tract has been affected by the attack.

The victim’s sister, Guillermina, told reporters Ms Massolo had told told doctors her boyfriend, who made money by juggling in front of drivers at traffic lights, was responsible for the attack.

The pair had reportedly only recently begun their relationship before deciding to travel around Brazil together three months ago, against Ms Massolo’s family’s wishes.
