'Bury it!' Woman finds 'terrifying' object in backyard
A woman’s bizarre find in the backyard of a new house has left Aussies terrified the object is ‘cursed’.
Kerri Moran, from Brisbane, posted pictures on Facebook of a strange ceramic ball with barnacle-like protrusions and what appears to be a small coffin attached to it.
“I recently bought an old house and dug this treasure up in the garden. I have no idea what it is but my daughter hates it and says it’s bad juju,” the woman wrote on Facebook, asking people to help her identify the object.
“It’s huge and heavy.”
The post attracted about 10,000 comments, with many suggesting she get rid of it or put it back immediately.
“Bury it back or burn it,” one said.
“You need to rebury it. If it’s some kind of spell jar and you f*** with it ... things can end badly ... this doesn’t look like a sweet spell,” another claimed.
“Call an exorcist,” one advised.
Others suggested the ceramic ball could contain ashes of either a pet or human and it should be returned underground.
Most people claimed they felt a weird vibe from the object and suggested the homeowner contact the previous dwellers to find out what it is.
The woman then settled the mystery after reaching out to the former owners and it turns out the object is not as sinister as originally believed.
“My yard smells like burnt sage, my house of vinegar. All precautions were taken. Anyway ... I have contacted my home’s previous owner. Mystery solved,” she posted.
“She said her son did pottery in high school a number of years ago and was forever bringing ‘crap’ home. She would put them in the garden where the earth claimed this piece.
“So now I can sleep again and have acquired what I think is a really cool piece of art.”
While many were happy the object was just an innocent piece of high school art, some were still sceptical.
“Nah that kid definitely trapped some kind of spirit in there. Don’t trust it,” one commented.
